School/Community Grant Awards

During the 2006-2007 school year the Oldham County Conservation District distributed over

$5, 400 in grant money to schools and the community. These funds were used toward the promotion of environmental education in the classroom and community environmental projects.

The district is looking forward to continuing this program for the 2007-2008 school year.  The deadline for submission of a grant request is October 22, 2007.  For further information, or to download an application, click on the link below.

Food, Farming & Our Environment Workshop

Food, Farming & Our Environment is designed to bridge the gap between teachers and the agricultural community. It is our desire to work with teachers and support their initiatives to better understand agriculture and its processes.

The workshop was held at Sunny Acres Farm on Wednesday, August 1, 2007 from 8:00 - 3:00.   Over 100 teachers enjoyed a day of sun, fun and learning.  The workshop has grown through a tremendous team effort of many agriculture and conservation professionals who provide services in the agricultural sector. The agricultural community is interested in the future and hopes this in-service will assist teachers in educating our youth about agriculture and our environment.

Who Should Attend?

Any adult educator (employed by but not limited to public, private, home and/or parochial schools) who:

• teaches in Bullitt, Jefferson, Oldham, Shelby and Spencer Counties.
• is interested in including education about agriculture and the environment in their curricula.
• is seeking community resources to utilize in the classroom, and farmers who are interested in promoting agriculture education in schools and on their farms.
